Let me introduce you a Turkish brand I fell in love with at Esxence 2024.
It's easy to fall in love with a renowned brand - you come across its advertisements in shopping malls, you test its fragrances at the airport if you're bored and regularly receive recommendations from influencers and content creators.
Falling for a niche brand is also easy, you need to be sophisticated enough to understand it.
I fell in love with a small but interesting brand I met at Esxence 2024.
Seven Gates is a brand from Istanbul that I knew nothing about, but I approached their stand because the bottles had labels made in a cyberpunk style, and ever since I played the game Stray, I've been drawn to such aesthetics.
The brand's concept revolves around the fusion of digital art and perfumery. The cyberpunk-style illustrations on the bottles are created by digital artists from Turkey.
The concept and fragrances were presented to me by their creative director, who is also responsible for marketing.
They have two ranges in their portfolio - white and black, to illustrate the idea of duality. Some fragrances from the dark set are so specific and experimental that I hesitated to review them.
Let's take them one by one, though:
Heroine (perfumer Koray Sevinç) is such a beautiful, powdery scent. It has notes of iris, musk, carrot seeds, and cognac… the brand chose Frida Kahlo in cyberpunk style as the heroine of the perfume. And it's about power and vulnerability at the same time.
It's curious how wearable and subtle the scent is. I would definitely get a full-size of it.
Collitherium (perfumer Jérôme di Marino) speaks about a dual world that combines tradition and progress. The pyramid is also a curious combination - algae, grapefruit, cypress, and lots of wood. Wearable.
Mood Canvas (perfumer Maïa Lernout) is the scent that depicts the Istanbul landscape. You can feel that from the scent itself. Mood Canvas smells like Turkish coffee, caramel, incense, smoke, and spices from the Grand Bazaar. It's intense, and colorful… just like the city.
AI Fragment (perfumer Nathalie Feisthauer) - the only fragrance for which the illustration was created by artificial intelligence but edited by humans. It's very airy, and semi-transparent. It starts with a fresh citrusy note but then transitions into a powdery scent with rose, heliotrope, and a woody base, which is also almost clear.
Neon Nights (perfumer Maïa Lernout) is a bouquet of peonies, white wine, iris root, and ylang-ylang. When you say "peonies," you usually think of something floral and feminine. It's quite intense due to vetiver, amber, and myrrh. The illustration is inspired by Van Gogh's Cafe Terrace. The nostalgic line of the fragrance also comes from him.
It's the first Turkish brand I've come across, and I'll proudly wear all the samples from the set because the scents are so beautiful.
E ușor să te îndrăgosești de un brand renumit – dai de reclama lui în centrele comerciale, testezi parfumurile în aeroport cât te plictisești, periodic îți apar recomandări de la influenceri și creatori de conținut.
E ușor să te îndrăgostești de un brand de nișă, el e tare pretențios și crezi că trebuie să fii suficient de sofisticat pentru a-l înțelege.
Eu m-am îndrăgostit de un brand mic, dar foarte interesant, pe care l-am întâlnit la Esxence 2024.
Seven Gates este un brand din Istanbul, de care nu știam nimic, dar m-am apropiat de stand pentru că flacoanele aveau etichetele făcute în stilul cyberpank, iar de când am trecut jocul Stray mă tot atrage așa estetică.
Conceptul brandului este apropierea artei digitale și a celei parfumerice, din acest motiv ilustrațiile în stilul cyberpank de pe sticle sunt semnate de artiștii digitali din Turcia.
Conceptul și aromele mi le-a prezentat directorul lor creativ, responsabil de marketing.
Au în portofoliu două game – albă și neagră, pentru a ilustra ideea de dualitate. Unele aromele din setul întunecat sunt atât de specifice, experimentale, încât am amânat să fac review de frica că o să fie prea ciudate pentru mine.
Hai să le luăm pe rând, totuși:
Heroine (parfumierul Koray Sevinç) este o aromă atât de frumoasă, pudrată. Are note de iris, mosc, semințe de morcov, coniac... iar drept eroină a parfumului brandul a ales-o pe Frida Kahlo în stil cyber pank. Și e despre putere și vulnerabilitate, în același timp.
Este curios cât de purtabil și cuminte este aroma. Mi-aș lua un full size.
Collitherium (parfumierul Jérôme di Marino) vorbește despre o lume duală, care combină tradițiile și progresul. Iar piramida este și ea o combinație curioasă – alge, grapefruit, chiparos, mult lemn. Absolut purtabil.
Mood Canvas (parfumiera Maïa Lernout) este aroma care are drept imagine peisajul de Istanbul. Asta se simte și din aromă. Mood Canvas miroase a cafea turcească, caramel, tămâie, fum, condimentele de la Grand Bazaar. E intens, colorat... cum e și orașul.
AI Fragment (parfumiera Nathalie Feisthauer) – unica aromă ilustrația pentru care a fost creată de inteligența artificială, dar editată de om. E foarte aeriană, semi-transparentă. Are un start citric proaspăt, dar apoi trece într-o zonă pudrată cu trandafir, heliotrop și o bază lemnoasă, care și ea e aproape transparentă.
Neon Nights (parfumiera Maïa Lernout) este un buchet de bujori, vin alb, rădăcină de iris, ylang ylang. Și când zici „bujori” se creează impresia că e ceva foarte floral și feminin. De fapt, este o aromă destul de intensă, datorită notelor de vetiver, ambră și miră. Ilustrația este inspirată de Cafe Terrace de Van Gogh și tot de la el vine linia nostalgică a aromei.
Este primul brand turcesc pe care l-am cunoscut și o să port cu drag toate mostrele din set la cât de frumoase sunt aromele.
